UMD Programs Ranked Highly in Latest US News Graduate School Rankings

Once again, graduate programs from the University of Maryland have made a strong showing in the 2018 U.S. News and World Report rankings released this week, with more than 20 programs or subject areas appearing in the top 25.

Leading this year’s rankings are the College of Education, which was ranked in the top 10 in three areas—Counseling and Personnel Services (1), Educational Psychology (5), Higher Education Administration (10)--and in the top 20 in a fourth—Special Education (11). Also placing in the top 10 was the iSchool, which was ranked eighth among schools for library and information studies, up two spots from the last time U.S News ranked LIS programs in 2015. The iSchool was also highly ranked in the following subject areas: Archives and Preservation (5), Information Systems (5), Digital Librarianship (8), School Library Media (5), and Youth and Children’s Services (5).

Other programs with subject areas ranked in the top 10 include the following:

  • Physics (with an overall ranking of 14), ranked third for plasma physics and sixth for atomic/molecular/optical physics
  • History, which was ranked second in the area of African-American history
  • the Robert H. Smith School of Business, which was ranked ninth in the area of information systems
